Having users verify their emails is an important step for security, safety, and email deliverability best practices. However, when to require email verification can be strategically designed to optimize user experience and minimize user drop off. We have built a feature so you can select the level of security you need while minimizing user drop offs.

To configure when to require Email Verification step, head over to your Admin area and navigate to

Settings >> Configuration >> User Sign Up, Account Verification & Legal section

Under the dropdown, there are three options:

  • [Strict] Required at account creation
  • [Moderate] Required when adding any content
  • [Minimum] Required when selling paid product/service

The most Strict option is "Required at Account Creation" where every user is required to verify their email upon signing up. This option yields the highest security, safety, and email deliverability, and is popular for Enterprise customers.

If you don't need users to verify their email at Account Creation for the highest security and safe use, we recommend selecting the "Required when adding any content" option. This will prompt users to verify their email only when they try to add new content to the platform.

The last option "Required when selling paid products/services" is for the platform with marketplaces where users can create seller accounts to sell products/services. And only then users will be prompted to verify their email. This option does allow users to create other types of content, such as forum posts, events, resources, etc without having to verify their email. We do not recommend this last option if these content types are also important on your platform.
